Ayurvedic Remedies of Anxiety

In these times, human has involved himself with many materialistic dimensions of life that leaves no time for meditation or self-inspection. This deteriorates the physical composition of the body and mind and results in conditions that overwhelm the individual. Anxiety is one of them. It could result due to situtations in or out of our control, such as personal loss, financial troubles, bodily malfunctions etc.

Following is a suggested remedy for anxiety, mild or severe, and related symptoms, as described by Dr. Pankaj Naram on TV:

Mix the following (tsp = teaspoonful):

1/4 tsp Dry ginger powder (सोंठ)
1/4 tsp Black pepper powder (काली मिर्च)
1-2 pinch Piper Longam powder (पिप्पली)
1/4 tsp Vaja powder
1/4 to 1/2 tsp Brahmi powder (ब्राह्मी)

Mix them in Cow's Ghee (clarified butter) and take twice daily for a month. Alternatively, one can take the above mixture with milk, water or little bit of honey.

Also do this marma: Press 6 times at the bottom of the hand thumb close to the fork with index finger. It's easier to do if you face your palm away from the body and use your middle finger of the other hand to press. This all should alleviate the anxiety and bring peace in your mind.

Alternative Approach suggested by Dr. Naram

In case, the intake of cow's ghee is not permitted due to health reasons, one can do the following:
* 1 tsp dry ginger powder mixed in 3 tsp Cow's ghee should be applied to the left part of the chest and rubbed until the ghee disappears.
* Additionally, cow's ghee 1/2 tsp each should be applied to right and left temples on the head and rubbed until the ghee disappears. This relieves the person of anxiety in 30 minutes.

If even the above treatment is prohibited, brahmi herb is known to calm the nerves and it can be taken regularly.

लौकी - The "Heart-felt" Vegetable

Lauki (or Bottle Gourd) is the best medicine for heart. It can open up the clogged arteries when consumed in sufficient quantities. There are many recipes for this vegetable. However, the fastest and easiest way to gain benefits is by consuming its juice. Do this at least 3 times a day for 15-20 days.

Lauki juice can be made after grating the vegetable, preferably in kaddu kas (no idea, what you'd call in English). After you get the soft grated fibers of Lauki, you squeeze them using any kitchen tool, e.g. big garlic/lemon press. You can also use big spoons etc. That way, you will collect enough juice into different container. This vegetable contains lots of water. So, you shouldn't have a problem with the quantity. Also, mix some Tulsi (Basil) and Pudina (Mint) juice, if available.

Now, it's not fun to drink this thing on a daily basis. So, it's recommended that you put some ground black pepper and black salt for your taste. Instead, you can squeeze a lemon or few honey drops as well.

Besides the above remedy, you should also take few tablets of Arjuna bark powder, available in many shops. The scientific name of this tree is Terminalia Arjuna, very widely grown in India. Also, few cloves of raw garlic in the morning will keep the cholesterol levels low.
